I'm looking at buying some new XT 8 speed shifters to replace my worn out Alivio shifters. I see there are Shimano M-740, SL-M740, and ST-M740 shifters available either on E-bay or the bike web stores. Is there a difference between these part numbers? Will any of them work as a replacement for my Alivio shifters.

I beleive that the SL-M740 are shifters alone and ST-M740 are shifters/brake levers. not sure of M-740.
