XT or Formula Mega - K24

So im currently using avid ball bearing brakes on my heckler, i guess you could say i ride aggressive all-mountain. Im looking for some disc brakes that offer more modulation than my bb7's and excellent power. I have heard nothing but good things about the new XT disc brakes and i have also head nothing but good things about formula brakes. The Mega and K24 brakes look like they would suit my riding style (leaning towards the megas). Which brakes should i purchase? XT's or Formula Megas? K24's? i will also be running 180mm front and 160mm back. Looking for some insight and opinions.

I'm going to throw Hope M4 into the equation, M4s have fantastic modulation. Price-wise you can subtract the cost of a bleed-kit for Hope brakes as they really don't need one (just a short length of cheap plastic tubing needed).

I have owned both. I currently run the MEGAs. Hands down, the MEGA is the better brake. When compared to the XT, the MEGA has more stopping power, better modulation, and better lever feel. It is easier (depending on hand shape, of course) to one-finger brake with the MEGAs than the XTs. Weightwise, they run a few grams more. If I had to do it over again I would Still go with the MEGAs.

I wrote a more extensive review of the MEGAs a while back, I'll see if I can't find it.

would you recomend the mega for heavy duty X.C. riding.....

Sure, esp if you are a heavier rider of do any kind of long downhills, or like to ride fast and need to slow down quick. They do require some extended bedding in to reach full power, a few long downhills will do the trick. I have them on a Turner RFX and they are perfect for that bike. I'd toss them on a 5" travel bike no questions asked.

If you do mostly mellow XC, the K24 might be a better option.

thx....I has some k24 in the spring,sold them on a new build,but they were sweet....every time I check out other line on brakes I keep on comeing back to formula.Although I rode my friends bike today that had a new new set of elixir r on it,and they felt preety nice.I know avid can get a bad rap at times,but these seem like a good brake for the $$$:thumbsup:
