I have a xo rear der. and x9 triggers I have shortend the chain as much as posible and positioned the spring in counter clockwise setting to add tension to the cage and still get lots of chain slap. I love the set up it shifts better than any thing I have ever ridden I would just like to quiet it down. By the way my bike has an elevated chain stay it is the der slaping on the dropout. thanks

If you're interested in making it quieter, wrap your stays in cloth bar tape or hockey stick tape. It also protects the finish of your bike!

its not the chain

It is the der hitting the hanger is it flips back to front. My bike has an elevated chain stay there is no cotact there

Gnarly. I just switched to an XO rear and think it's got more spring tension than any derailleur I've ever seen.

I have no solution for you, but want to know which spring you adjusted or changed to add tension. Is it to the parallelogram, the idler arm or the main pivot?

Spring Change

If you pull the cage off the main body ther are three position you can put the spring in. Center is standard and counter clockwise offers more tension. I have done this on every sram der I have ever owned with great results. My 9.0 sl was much quieter than my xo maybe im just picky.
