The XC8 8 hour returns to Buffalo Pound Provincial Park just north of Moose Jaw Saskatchewan again for 2006. This year's race will be held August 26th. The race is presented by Blocks Cycle out of Regina and Norco Performance bikes. Blocks and Norco will be supplying over $1000 in prizes and Norco will have factory representatives and bikes out!

Race solo, with male and female categories, or on open teams of 2 or 4. There will be music, food and fun for team competitors who aren't out riding as well as for spectators and support people.

The fabulous course from 2005 will be expanded with more singletrack, both uphill and down, added. Expect longer lap times are more challenging riding, oh yeah, and more climbing!

Full race details and entry instructions are available on the web at:

Hope to see you guys and galls there!

Endurance racing is MADE for the old guys!

Seriously though, we are trying to grow the event using a simple structure for now. If and when we start to get large turnouts (200 riders) then we will likely add more categories. Right now it's all about fun, less about winning, although we do have sweet awards for the winners. ;)
Ok Ok I'm in.

Sending my money today. Going solo male. This event is fairly close to me so I hope to find some new places to ride.
Will you be selling butt relief cream on site? Or should I bring my own?
This is going to be fun, I know it.
If you've never ridden at Buffalo Pound you're in for a real treat. The trails there are wonderful, some of the best in Sask, perhaps THE best.

Better bring your own cream! Brings back painful memories of last year... I was on a new seat after wrecking my old one a week before. OUCH! Trust me, bleeding saddle sores are NOT fun! ;) Thank god a friend brought a big comfy backup seat, I switched to that after 3 hours and was able to continue the race through til the bitter end. This year I'm bringing my own mushy backup seat just in case.
Sweet! Cheque is in the mail and I'll see ya on the 26th.

Hey Kris,

I was wondering if you knew how long an "average" lap should take. I'm trying to prepare and would like to know how much I'm going to have to carry. Any other insight from a past rider would more than welcome.

Thanks, Darren
We've expanded the course quite a bit this year, so I'm not quite sure. Last year fast laps were about 30min, average was likely around 35-40. This year with the additions I'm guessing that fast laps will be around 40min, with the weekend warrior set around the 1 hour mark.

I'm on a two man team. My race "nutrition" plan is as follows:
- one bottle gatorade per lap
- one gel per lap
- 1/2 bar per lap, perhaps full one, if I'm feeling empty.

There will be a feed zone area at the transition area, so hydration shouldn't be a problem, just grab a new bottle per lap.

Also I'm not planning on carrying any more "gear" than I would for a regular XC race. If competitors have bike problems it's likely better to nurse it back to the transition area and fix it there.

I'm soooo stoked about this race! We've put in a ton of effort on the trails, they are looking SWEET! The course is wicked fun, again, some of the best trails I've ever ridden. We've got a bunch of racers coming in from Manitoba, hopefully some from Alberta as well. Our pre-registrations already match what we had in total last year. It will be a blast!
