Hi, I know i shouldnt be doing too much XC on a Pitch Pro but its the only bike i have got and cant afford another.....

Here is the situation, last year I entered a MTB Marathon and i did it on my bike completey stock, set the Pikes as low as possible and just went for it, it was very hard due to the weather being very heavy rain, muddy etc etc.......

I would like to now beat my time set by last year, I would like to smash it infact, it has got to be done on the Pitch, but i would like to give myself an advantage with a good choice of tyre, anything has got to be better than the stock Eskars's 2.3's....

Its has DT Swiss 445 rims on it.....and i am assuming the weather will be simular to last year...very wet UK weather....should i be considering a certain width beacuse it is an all mountain bike etc etc?

The tyres i have been eyeing up are :-

Thanks...

Riding in very similar conditions, I would've said either Mountain Kings or Schwalbe Nobby Nics for marathon duties but watch the puncture-proof abilities of both for your conditions. If it's rocky then maybe the MK protections (or NN snakeskin models) would be better over the standard ones. Another tyre I'd recommend is the Maxxis Advantage for rear use in mud. It grips very well and is light enough.
Remember bigger tyres = bigger weight = a harder push. It's always a compromise but about 2.2/2.25 would be fine for marathon use on those rims and if it's a mudfest even narrower.
Good luck.
