I don't know specifics, but I'm pretty sure they just held national championships there a year or two ago, so there should definitely be some xc trails right there on the mountain. You're also within a couple hours of all of the GWNF goodness in Va.

There are tons of XC trails at and near Snowshoe. Slatyfork has numerous backcountry trails, and a further out is the Cranberry outback, with trails such as Kennison Mountain and Pocahontas. Moreover, Snowshoe mountain has numerous, good technical trails. You will not be disappointed with the quality of trails at and near Snowshoe.

Order a Snowshoe map (from Snowshoe) and a map of the Slatyfork trails (from Elk River Touring Center). The Cranberry maps are available at the Cranberry Visitor's Center between Richwood and Marlinton. Lots of great loops in these areas.

Weather is a factor year round in Pocahontas County. Prepare for rain, but hope for the best. Very rocky terrain as well.

You can easily put together a 25 mile ride without leaving the mountain. Stop by the MAC bike shop by Ballhooter lift.
