Not sure what they're called. The raised lip that surrounds your skewer and prevents the wheel from being removed by just opening the QR. Without getting into a safety debate. Can I file off the lower part of the lip without sacrificing the stiffness of the fork?

I don't get the need to remove these other than making it 2 seconds faster to remove the wheel or putting it on a roof rack.

Beyond that, I'd feel better knowing they're there with the downward forces that disc brakes put on the wheel and fork. It was a lot more common to file them down when everyone was running V-brake's though.....
