I have two sets of X-Max (which I am getting rid of) I bought one set new and one used off ebay. The used set had some chips out of the ceramic on the front rim and now the ceramic has chipped some on the newer set. The only fix for this problem is to order new rims and they are mighty spendy, close to a hundred for the ceramic model. I will say that the flaked of ceramic didn't cause me any braking problems or brake pad problems.
I have decided that those wheels are lite, stiff and have a high bling factor, may be o.k. for racing and easy XC riding but are anything but "bomb proof." In addition to the ceramic flaking we are talking about the freehubs require more frequent maintenance that other hubs.
Sorry, no good news.
