Set your sag to recomended amount and ride.See if you are getting close to 5 inches of travel and adjust the air pressure to your type of riding, firm or plush.I like my rebound fast,so I have mostly open.Good luck,my fork works well for my type of riding.

Today I set the sag, released pressure, increased rebound 4 clicks, and getting close to 4.5 inches of travel. The stock settings were firm for my 165lbs. but I loved how it stayed at the top of its stroke. Its seems after one ride with the plush air release the DT and the MRD continued to stay at the top of the stroke. I did not expect that result, it feels great. It feels like soft coil as opposed to flat air. What's under the left top fork cap?

The left side is the air chamber and the right side is the damper. The manuel isnt very comprehensive.Fox does a much better job with the manuel.I noticed it felt very plush on small bumps and took jumps and drops as well as the fox rlc

Your exactly right, the manual is lackluster. It covers all manitou products on two pages. I have tried manitou site for info to no avail. Too new
I know the right side is the air chamber but what is directly under the cap. I had the cap half way off when I notice the o-rings on the cap. This made me think that this might me under pressure and when I turn the last thread it was going to send the cap into my face under great pressure. Hence, why I stopped and posted. First air fork...I cannot help disassembling it to see how its built.
I have pedal time on a vanilla & sherman, and have been a die hard coil fan for over a decade with years on a Judy SL with a White Brothers spring kit. I never liked other air offerings. So far its safe to say that this fork feels like a coil but is lighter than air, if it holds together FOX has been unseated as the leader. I'm off for an epic ride with the new adjustments and hope to get the full 5 inches of travel today.

Alabama,

I'm in the UK and about to order a fork for my SL - What travel does yours have, colour? and exact model ref?

How was the ride, I've got some Pike U turn airs on my Nomad at present so interested in some weight saving! The DT 150 TA are not available till March and very expensive!

Thanks

I blew the manitou!!! Under 35 miles!!!

My LBS opened it up today to see what went wrong. It was dumping oil out of the rebound dampening adjustment. On the stand, if you turned the bike vertical oil would poor out of the bottom of the fork. I had notice oil on the fork bottom from the beginning but not to this degree. Unfortunately, my LBS has yet to be able to find tech info on the fork for reassembly. Pending resolution.

To be fair, it was a great 35 miles of gardens and descents... If the problem is minor such as poor torque on a crush washer thus causing the issue, then you should NOT construe this as a negative post.

I will post pictures when the LBS returns it.

Spoke with Tom at Ibis, what a good guy and extremely helpful. It may not have been my descents that caused the problem but a over torqued o-ring from the factory. Tomorrow will tell... As always the guys at Ibis are top notch and willing to do anything.

Here's an extensive thread I saw on the 29'r forum regarding the Manitou Minute, complete with some pics of one disassembled. They're talking about a 29r fork, of course, but one would think that the damping components would be the same. There are links in this thread to some really interesting reading about different fork oils as well.

I never disassembled the fork, I wanted to as I stated but did not because of the lack of technical info for reassembly.

Anyway, the LBS called, Manitou did not install the o-rings in the fork from the factory. Thus, every Manitou MRD built to date is a faulty product. Manitou admitted to this. Also, during assembly, let me quote " the shoulder was so over torqued that it was broken". I do not know what this means but, Manitou admits the problem is material. Manitou asked for the fork back, but its 76 degrees and sunny, I need to be riding, so they will ship the parts over night to my LBS. Manitou stated that Ibis must rebuild the entire shipment of forks because the issue is widespread.

Again, the fork did feel really good, but imagine what its going to feel like with oil, o-rings, and without internal parts shattered form being over torqued.

Pending resolution...

Way to go Manitou! Great quality control. Entire shipment....GTBK.....perfect! Glad I have a 08' Fox Talas (I know it's heavier) and have never had a problem with it.

'Bama- good thing that you have a very good LBS and Ibis on your side. Hope you are able to get back on your new ride soon.

Just got the facts-it was in my inbox hours ago...
1. My Fork, and all MRD were built perfectly to specs.
2. No o-rings were ever omitted
3. All MRDs had a o-ring / nylon washer added to achieve higher torque on the splash bath.
4. I had the prototype version with a compression washer. Possible fact that the LBS meant this was over torqued. Pending...
5. Tomorrow my o-ring and nylon washer will arrive.
6. Manitous service diagnosed my issue and shipped my part to have me riding in what appears to be a 24 hour window.
7. Fox would never offer that level of service.

Notice the facts and the previous post are in perfect accord. The details have just come to light. If I get to ride my loop tomorrow the rumor should be - Manitous service is like having factory support.

And I have a 07 Talas RLC that rides like crap. What is your point? There are many people on the Shocks forum that have been complaining about the 07 Fox Forks.

Alabama:

I have the Manitou on my SL I got in a couple of weeks ago. Is there any way for me to tell whether I have a prototype or production model without disassembling the fork? I will check closely, but I haven't noticed any leakage.
