I'm very impressed with the Laserdisc FR rim. It's burly and relatively light. I can't give you any input on the hubs as I've never used them. The ADD light uses an MTX variant. My MTX33s have been decent but they are relatively soft and dent easily.
WTB Laserdisc FR and SunRingle ADD Lite questions
I destroyed my rim casing a jump yesterday. I was thinking about upgrading my wheelset on the way to the trail anyway, so I guess be careful what you wish for. I can get very good prices on the WTB Laserdisc FR and SunRingle ADD Lite wheelsets, but have no information on them other than the websites. I'm coming off a stock 08 Glory FR, which has Speedisc DH rims and formula hubs. I want something that can take a lot of abuse, but I have to climb so weight is an issue. I've also thought about the King hubs and mavic 729s routes, but don't know if I want to get into that kind of money. Especially after my wife asked the random question of how much a wheel could cost and I gave her the honest price range. Any thoughts on these wheelsets would be appreciated. Thanks.

729 + kings will be very heavy. I know a few people with the add lites and they like them. Wtb hubs are super light and lazer disc rims are very strong. I'd go for the wtb setup
I had my laserdisc FR for 2 years with no problems. many many cased jumps and fast rock gardens. Only had them trued twice in the two years and there were no dents or cracks even to the end.
The WTB wheels will be the lightest of your options. The hubs don't have the best engagement but no cheaper hubs really do.
another option would be to get a custom wheelset built. you could get some laserdisc FR rims laced to hope pro 2 hubs and have some light wheels. mine weighed 2000 grams when i used dt swiss comp spokes.

Thanks for the comments, this was really helpful. The deal on the WTB stuff isn't as great as I thought, so I think I'm going to go the Hope route with another rim, probably the WTB.

I guess I was wrong on the weight of the 729's, but somebody else did bring up the MTX's as being nice, interesting that the WTB's are as light as they apparently are. So you're going to get the Hope Pro's? Very cool stuff, and cnc'd in jolly old England to boot.........oh wait, you're Irish, you hate the English, maybe you should get some Guinness hubs instead, I hear potato hubs are pretty lighweight too 
I've been running the ADD lites for about a year now and they're holding up very nicely for the weight. They are pretty cheap at EP price too, if that's the "deal" your talking about.
ADD lites use an MTX 29 rim. MTX 29's are a well used rim on the world cup DH circuit, strong and light. I can't recommend them enough. If you prefer Mavic then the 721 is almost identical in both weight and strength, and again a WC favourite.

The CRC custom wheels look very interesting and are for an incredible price. I rode a set of mavic 729's laced to hope pro II hubs. I believe with dt champ black 2.0 spokes the wheelset weighed in around 2300 grams with the mavic HD rim strips. Very strong wheels, although you could certainly save some weight going to a 721.
