on your 5spot?

I have the chance of a new crankset

this one in fact

I'm now using a 1 x 10 with an XTR 970 crank.

I'm a bit sceptical about the carbon fibre and was wondering what are the Next cranks like for standing up to abuse?

The XTR ones on at the moment are getting a fair bit of scrapes and gouges not to mention a good hammering down some very rocky trails here in the Lake District in the UK.

any comments or advice will be much welcomed

Ta

A friend of mine has been using the same crankset on his AM. His had ridden his 140mm bike everywhere (through gnar rock gardens, taken the bike on the DH trails at Big Bear, etc) and they have been fine. Run the rubber end caps and you'll be fine.

I have the SixC cranks and weigh 230 lbs and they have been flawless. From the guys I've talked to at Race Face it will take something really stupid to break those cranks.

It's purely the strength aspect, thats why I ask the question.

I seem to trust the XTR 970's , i'm just a little aprehensive about the carbon.

and yip they are VERY light.

carbon shouldn't be a worry anymore.

i've heard you need to run a bashguard if you are running a single ring to help the chainring tabs. not 100% on that, just what i read somewhere, at least on the sixc model

Those were replacements of the originals but RaceFace is standing behind them 100%.
IMO the 2 x's are probably pretty bombproof with the thicker cross section spyder vs the 3 x.
