I've had a DHR II for 2 1/2 months and haven't put that many miles on it. Surprisingly today it sprung a leak big enough that Stan's couldn't seal it. I can't tell if it's a manufacturing defect and split along the seam or maybe I ran over something really sharp on the road that punctured it. Maxxis said to send them a picture so they can tell if it's possible to do a warranty but the slit is so small you can't really see it. Anyone have experience with Maxxis warranty claims? Should I pursue or just chalk it up to bad luck and spend ~$80 on a new tire?

Best advise - take really good photo with lots of light. Use chalk, tape, colored marker to identify exactly the defect. Got RMA on tire with bad wobble because I used tape and pencil to show the wobble difference between the tape. Had another RMA on faulty seam and had to shine bright light behind it to show the thinning rubber along the seam.

If you think they look at the RMA product to determine if its defective, they are not. So use the warranty claim to prove its defective with as much data as possible.

Right in the middle of the tire. You can see it clearly on the photo posted above.
That's not a seam. That's called flash. It's where a bit of rubber is pushed between where the two halves of the mold come together. There should be anyway for rubber to leak there other than a puncture. I guess it's possible some curing defect could occur to allow it to leak but it's hard to imagine what it could be that would leave the rest of the tire seemingly intact.

I had a dhf with same issue. Wouldn’t seal after 3 rides.Removed from rim, cleaned really well and there was clearly a defect inside and not enough rubber over the casing along the centerline for about 3 inches. Looked like the rubber never met in the middle. Took good photos and Maxxis warranted it.

it’s what we get asking for light tires. Now I inspect new tires really carefully before I install.
