Working on Logging/Timber properties?

Local advocacy group of which I am part are trying to establish a better relationship between a timber company and the local trail users. Timber company permits use by public, but does not permit trail building (officially). That being said they have wilfully turned a blind eye to building over the years.

Does anyone here have experience dealing with Timber properties in terms of approaching these companies and communicating how allowing certain groups to take stewardship over the trails can benefit the landowner? Or language which the company uses in crafting these agreements? Bonus points if your experience is in California.

No experience, but I would contact Redwood Coast Mountain Biking Association. There is also some info online about their arrangement for trails in Blue Lake (on this page there's a link to their actual agreement with Green Diamond Resource Company):
