Yes, for most if not all trainers. It can be noisy with knobby tires though.

29" = 700C

Going to want to put a cheap slick tire on your wheel in any case.

I am running my 29er on the trainer. Using wtb slick 29x2.1 urban commuter tire. Works great. No more noisier than the 1.5 slick that was on there before

i'm glad this was asked. i got one for my lady's roadie and she doesn't use it.

i might get a cheap-o rear wheel and cassette with a slick on it.

definitely want the slick. I had a cheap mountain bike tire on one, similar tread as the bontrager tires on $300 LBS bikes. Loud as heck. Swapped to smooth, and could hear much better. Of course, the drivetrain was noisy, but that's a different problem.

Only thing I did notice, even with smooth tires in the highest gear you'll get with a 29er, the resistance was still real low, but I did have one of the cheap $70 trainer off amazon.
