My Nates wore out last year. I managed to scrounge a new pair of Knards (26 x 3.8) last Spring, and it's really time to take them off for the snow season.

My LBS has nothing at all in stock - and says the tire situation for him has been just at zero for 2 years now.

I've asked before, but I guess I'll ask again: the offset Pugsley came with 3.8" Nates. I was going to get a set of 45nrth Vanhelgas, 26 x 4.0 - which are apparently no longer made at that width, and are now 26 x 4.2 There a few Dillinger 4's still out there (26 x 4.0)

Does anyone run 4.2 VH's on an offset frame Pugs? Should I just get the Dillinger 4's and be done with it? Mostly asphalt commuting, some gravel trails. Front/back ideas?

TIA for your suggestions. NB: Large Marge rims, not planing to run tubeless.

Can't help you on the VHs, but I used to run studded Dillinger 4s on my old Pugs on the 65m Marge-lite rims with tubes for riding out on our snow-packed and icy roads. Not what I would call fast, but they certainly did the trick and were fast enough. Made the old Pugs a pretty decent packed snow and ice machine. Most importantly, you might still be able to find some.

I ran a Vee Bulldozer on a Marge on the back of my Pugs when I had it. It's been long enough since I had it that I don't remember exactly how it rode, but I think it had a decent balance between rolling well and grip. Probably rolls better than a Nate but gives up a little grip.
