Not sure if this is the best place to post this... but I have poor circulation in my hands and the best normal glove solutions start to fail me around 38-40 deg F. This seriously cuts into my season as it is winter or near-winter for 6 months here. I have a fat bike for when there is actually snow/ice on the ground. We use pogies on those and they work well... feel a little constricted. But for days like today, the roads are clear and I want to ride my gravel bike, but the high will be 38F and with my winter gloves my hands will be so cold I can't feel the controls.

Does anyone have experience with either heated gloves or pogies for "road" bikes??? The gloves present all kinds of questions and concerns, not to mention the price... and the pogie designs I've seen for road bikes seem a little restrictive???

Looking for comments and opinions from riders that have actually used the above.

No heated gloves. My goto is to wear an outer glove with a windstopper fabric.Underneath I wear a liner glove.`

Minimal bulk. Warm.Grip is good.

Tip; one can wear the gloves for a bit before the ride or do some other thing else to pre-heat the gloves.

Yeah... that is what I would call my "best" solution... It's far better than any single "winter glove" solution and way more dextrous. I have Windstopper and Goretex shells and all manner of gloves to stuff inside them, but they just are not warm enough... my hands used to run hot when I was younger.... getting old sucks.

Maybe you don't need as much dexterity to ride road bikes, I find anything over a wind-proof glove starts to make it hard to grip the bar and operate brakes/controls on a mountain bike in any serious off-road riding situation, but one thing I do in the shoulder seasons and even still into winter at times is use some chemical foot-warmers, they are adhesive, so you can grip them to the bar, depending on the grip material, they tend to stick after a while, so you basically have "heated grips". Take out a package and open it, put it in your pocket about 15 min before you think you'll need it. Use a little tape if they won't stick on their own.

I don't ride in winter but use chemical hand warmers in my ski gloves. I ski a lot and even in subzero temps, they will provide some warmth. I have battery boot warmers and they work well too so the same concept would work for heated gloves.

It's the same on the road controls.... especially with Di2. Too much bulk and you can no longer differentiate between the UP or DOWN paddle.

I've used these on the back of my hands. They don't keep my fingers warm... but I never thought of putting them on the bar itself. I will give this a shot.

Poggies actually work pretty darn well on a road bike. Not fashionable but function over fashion!

Have you tried doing some arm swings before riding? I find spending some time swing the arms really gets the blood flowing to hands. this is my standard warm up routine for XC skiing and it really helps me.

I have a set of Tasco cold weather gloves that I use when it's in the 40's. I also get cold hands and feet quickly thanks to my crap circulation.

Once it dips low enough, I double up with a set of normal Taso summer gloves as a base and then put the cold gloves over them. Keep my hands plenty warm and keeps bulk down.

I think Pogies are gonna be the solution. I just wanted to make sure they weren't gonna kill me. They work "acceptably" on the fat bike. My wife has no complaints, but getting in and out of them quickly and finding controls is sometimes challenging for me. I'm going to try a different design as these are Bar Mitts XL and I still feel a little cramped in them.... which brand did you use on your road bike??

I have NOT tried this as a warm up. I will this afternoon. I have tried it once the fingers have gotten so cold I can no longer feel them, but I think at that point it's too late. Nothing really seems to work then.

Usually cold hands happen when you are cold. I find that dressing warm really helps with my hands. If my core gets cold my hands are cold no matter what glove I have on.
Try a thicker layer on your head and a buff around your neck.

in the motor cycling world heated gloves are a thing. You can't plug them into the wiring system on your bicycle (maybe an ebike) but there may be battery operated gloves out there. It would be like a night light battery just to warm your hands instead.

1. Keep your core warm. 2. I also have the Pearl Izumi Lobster gloves. For me they are are very warm: https://www.pearlizumi.com/products/amfib-lobster-gel-glove-14342006 . I have worn them in sub-zero (F) weather without issues. I use the HotHands toe warmers in my boots, again good well below zero F with boots. Put those in mittens and I can't imagine you couldn't keep your hands warm. If you buy a box of them, they are less than $1/ride. Two boxes will probably easily get you through the winter. They don't really store well over the summer, BTW.

I have similar issues. No one solution works 100% of the time. Also one solution doesn’t seem to always work under the same conditions every time.

Most times I go out with multiple glove options or layers. Pogies are also in my arsenal and used with varying gloves inside. I also carry some chemical warmers just in case I can’t beat the cold with passive measures.

I don’t really have any silver bullet solutions that haven’t been mentioned. Diet, hydration and energy level also seem to have an effect for me.

I’m with Rev Bubba and Shaky Dog. Poor circulation, frostbite history, and cold hands and feet. Chemical heaters as needed on hands in mittens not gloves and electric boots for skiing. For riding I like chemical heaters, lobster gloves, and neoprene bar mitts. Plus what other guys said about general core warmth keeping extremities warm.

Yeah, that works for people that don't have poor circulation.

I can make my core as hot as I want, it won't help send blood to my fingers. Ice cold fingers even in the summer when shaking people's hands. My palms will be sweating and my fingers white, no circulation. That's Raynauds.

I do however harness my F-ing "core", I shove my spare pair of gloves/mittens down my shirt when I start riding, then halfway through I put those warm ones on when the ones on my hands get damp/cold or start alternating. I have other ways to keep my hands warm, but this one is easy and doesn't require me to burn up chem heaters.

This is me. Thank you for understanding. And a great idea on keeping spare gloves warm. I have serious issues when we stop and I have to take my gloves off. Down the shirt they go from now on.... not sure why I never thought of this before.

Eventually you get to a point where you declare unlimited war on cold hands/feet.
