Winters are long and cold for many of us in the Midwest, and we just don't see enough racing content here during these months, so here ya go. These were taken at the Cyclocross race circuit finale in West Michigan. 20 degrees and 10" of snow on the ground. The course was swept though before the race, and by the time the huge B group got done, it was packed in the flats and chewed up on the turns and hills. Big fun though. There's a shot of yours truly on the infamous Orange KM, kicking it fat-tire single speed, and a shot of another local on a Pugsly.

Hey MichiganClydesdale,

Did I see that sweet orange KM in Traverse City at the Grand Traverse Resort? I think it was a business expo or some such deal. Are you in the TC area, or just visitng? Me and my Monkey have nothing to hide and live in Cadillac! :D

Great Race MichganClydesdale

I was at the race and MichiganClydesdale was flying on the Karate Monkey. The big grin on the Puglsey is a local wrench from the Grand Rapids area by the nickname of Mudshot. I watched him build up the Pugs and he has been riding the heck out of it. His comments so far are that it is the funest bike he has ever ridden.

There is another race in Grand Rapids in January called Snowcross. I know I will see MichiganClydesdale and Mudshot there.

If you aren't riding through the winter you are missing out.

OM Flyer - yeah, I was at the TC EXPO during the week after the iceman race, I had some business there, and then left and went to the VASA for a ride. There was a couple inches of first-snow, and it was UNTOUCHED and absolutely a beautiful ride, and I had a one of those great rides that you remember for a long time. Funny that you saw it there! Let's ride sometime!

You rcck Michclyde!!

I live "down the road" from MichiganClydesdale. Winters here just plain old suck, well maybe they are a drag at times. Skate skiing, show shoeing, and the occassional frozen dirt road ride seem to pass the long cold winters.

Keep tearing it up, MichiganClydesdale!!

Post the pics of the Curtlo. That bike rocks!! Everyone on this board will be in for a treat.

Om Flyer: You live in Cadillac? That is awesome. I live in Williamsburg, grew up in TC, and was born in Cadillac. My dad and his family settled in Lucas, Michigan from the Netherlands.
If you ever come up to TC, let me know. I can bring you on all the sweet singletrack around Vasa trail.

Rock on 29ers!!

MIClyde and cjsbike

Glad to hear of a 29" community in northern MI. I'll PM some contact info before my next TC visit, and you guys do the same if ever in Cadillac. There is a decent amount of riding here, as I'm still discovering(my first year here)...cjs, you must know the hood given your cadillac background!

I miss those KissCross "races"

I really do. Rick Plite puts on some really great layed back, fun races in West Michigan. Since moving to Minneapolis I really haven't found something fun and competitive to replace it, not that I've looked hard. How often is it that the only thing you are racing for is a sweet six pack of Founder's brew.

I sure hope to be able to make it to Rick's Lumberjack 100 race this summer in Manistee area. Everyone in the Midwest who likes riding, drinking beer, and having a good time in a competitive atmosphere should be at that race. Check out www.kisscross.com for some more info on these great events. The West Michigan cycling community would be somewhat lost without Rick's hardwork.

Winter Rides in Grand Rapids

Just to go along with that race MichiganClydesdale was at, there are a buch of guys riding on Tuesday and Thursday nights in Grand Rapids out on the East side of town that frequent the KISSCROSS series. It is all dirt roads on Cross Bikes.

If anyone is in town over the winter and wants to hit the back roads for a little spinning let me know.
