11-30 rear(8X) 22-36 front(2X) w/ Sachs(SRAM) Quarz DIRT short cage. Will this work? I have some LX splined front cranks, will aftermarket 36 front middle ring fit, or am I stuck w/ what shiman gives me? thanks!
If you're suspicious of the SRAM, a Shimano short cage road derailleur is another option. The DIRT will work with any non-ESP (i.e. Shimano, SRAM Attack, Rocket or DIRT) shifters, and is a solid unit (definitely better than their DIRT shifters, which I didn't really care for). I referenced the other post you linked to, and to be honest, I wasn't aware there were multiple versions of this derailleur. And so long as the 36T ring has a 104mm BCD, you're golden. Your choice of an 8 or 9 speed chain to work with that combo: either will shift fine on an 8 speed cassette and I don't think you'll run into any trouble running an 8 speed chain on a 2x9 setup, even if it's a "9 speed" ring.flyingmachine said:thanks for the quick reply nate, this is the not the same Sachs DIRT quartz

as in the the other post (http://forums.mtbr.com/showthread.php?t=9929&highlight=199)
how many versions are there? and how does the one Cambria has perform? tks!
I know at least Black Spire makes a 36T in a 104BCD. No shift pins but it's a bit more heavy duty than a Shimano chainring so it should hold up better...flyingmachine said:11-30 rear(8X) 22-36 front(2X) w/ Sachs(SRAM) Quarz DIRT short cage.
