Here is the xtr crank:

Here is the bash guard:

I have held the bash guard up to the crank and it looks like the crank that extends out to the big ring will hang over the edge of the bash guard. Should I get a bigger bash guard or not worry about it? I have the 104mm right now, which is supposed to cover a 36 tooth #2 ring, mine is only 32 teeth.

Nope...

If you think you need a bash guard, I would rethink your choice of cranks. The XTR is premium priced because it's the ultimate lightweight XC crank. If you're going to be bashing it around, you would be much better off with an M760 XT crank and a save a hundred bucks or two. XTR uses odd sized chainrings that are extremely expensive to replace and won't work with a standard bashguard. XT uses normal chainrings and you can easily fit the RF or other bashguard. There are a couple options for XTR but because of the design, you won't get any more clearance though.
