I have found that for my 29er application that I am looking for a front double chainring setup of 27 / 40. Currently I am running a 26 / 36, but would like a taller middle. I can't seem to locate either a 27 granny (64) a 40 tooth (104) pinned for an inner middle. I am hoping that Shimano jumps on the double platform in the XT line and stays with the 64/104 bolt hole pattern and makes the rings available for my 770 and 771 and SLX cranksets.

ANY NEWS?

You would probably have a hard time being able to fit 40 teeth in the middle position anyway. It would hit the chainstay, most likely. I tried a 36t once on a hardtail for middle, and it barely cleared. Also, ramps and pins aren't that important. I ran a few chainrings without ramps and pins, and they shifted just fine.

I know 26 tooth granny chainrings exist. You can probably find a bigger one if you looked hard enough. I may even have one in my parts bin. It came off a Bontrager crankset from a comfort bike.
