Instead of the DHX air, I'd like to put a Vanilla R coil on a 6" travel X5 if I get one. Will it fit? Any clearance problems or anything problematic? The Vanilla should weigh about the same as the DHX air. I like the simplicity of the Vanilla R with the coil performance.

I ran a PUSHed Vanilla RC on my 2004 Large X5....BEST shock I ever had, by a mile! I believe that jerk El Beastro also ran an RC on his 2004 X5.

myitch.....i agree with the others here. i was pretty darn happy to see Fox selling the Van R as an aftermarket shock once again. The performance of this shock is outstanding, and when you factor in the price it's a serious bonus. I've got one mounted up to my Salty and it's one of the best i've had mounted up to it.

As for the fit, you won't have any issues at all on your X6.

As for the weight comparisons: DHXair - 420 grams , Vanilla R - 725 grams (with spring)

That looks like the brown salty I saw in Lyons a couple months ago...

...Van R as an aftermarket shock once again....

That was news to me, so I had to look at the (atrocious) Fox website. They only list the 2" stroke for aftermarket...

i defer to Chad, but at least checking one of the many online retailers, they note that the 2007 does in fact offer a 7.875 x 2.25

Aaron.... Fox has both 7.875 X 2 and 7.875 X 2.25 Vanilla R's available. Fox's suggested retail is $249. Sounds like a good option to me.

does PUSH work on Vanilla Rs? I tell you man....the PUSHed Vanilla RC was phenomenal. PUSH is one thing I do believe works and aint some bell and whistle that is all marketing.....if you cant PUSH a Vanilla R, I would personally track down an RC and have it PUSHed. having said that, i never tried a newer Vanilla R.

that would have been me..... man, that was a huge group of folks having a good time coming down that behemoth of a mountain called 'Crosier'. That was my second Crosier adventure....the first time was in 2000.

It might help spark my memory if you told me what you were riding.

I have a Van RC on my Bruja, when it needs it's next service it will be going to Push.

The Van R would be for my Salt, to get more travel out of it. I'ver been toying with the idea of going to 4.5 X 4.5 or 4 x 4.5 with it.

Ugh, I forgot, 2.0" would fit fine, 2.25 does not. (Seat stay yolk clearance)
So no Van R for me. And 2.0 wouldn't make sense with the Float R working just fine.

So I guess I'll just have the Float R pushed instead.

......... like the stock Vanilla RC on your Bruja ? I ordered mine straight from PUSH Industries which they did the the mods for me at a sweet discount ( sellout on what was in stock ) ! I think the shock is awesome and a perfect match for the setup on my Bruja ! Its the plushest setup mtb I 've ever owned ! TIG.

I like it stock, cuz it's SOOO plush, just sucks everything up.
So does the Z1 up front so the front and rear match beautifully and I like it plush so Bruja feels a lot different than my Salt. Now that the Salt has a REBA with motion control though I can see the benefits of platforms. I'll push the Float R on the Salt for even more balanced Suspension feel. (Feels balanced now with the inherent stable pedalling designed into the suspension geo)

I don't think I'll add the platform to the VAN RC unless I go to a Pike/Lyric up front.
None of the upgrades on the Bruja will take place until after the end of the year anyway.
