My friend was wondering if the headset he bought would fit in his enduro hardtail frame. No, he hasn't gotten it yet it'll take a week of shipping until we find it out ourselves. Is the 1mm clearing on the head tube a big difference? Any help guys?

56 is a more common size. So probably not. Call Cane Creek tech support to know for sure.

The actual bearings inside the headset cups are most likely the same, but cups themselves need to be mated to an appropriately sized headtube. So 56 cup goes into 56 headtube and likewise 55 goes into 55. Tolerances are in tenths of a milimiter.

So - no - it won't fit.

What? Am I missing something? 1mm is a huge distance when discussing bearing fit and dentistry. Only way I can see it working is if it's tapered or stepped to fit different sizes, but yikes. Anyway, if it's already in transit, I guess you'll let us know how it goes.

That can only happen if the headset in question was shipped with two different lower cups.

55mm is a legitimate headset size.
