"But why use wider bars, particularly for single speeding?
Simply put, "Wider is better."
It comes down to the principle of leverage. Since the (seated) "drop-into-the-granny-and-spin-away" approach isn't an option for single speeders, the tendency is to stand & rock your way up big climbs....................
Why not use bar ends then if it is all about leverage. They seem to make great sense for single speeding. I guess they are just not cool anymore. They will come back into vogue again sometime in the future though. Always seems to work that way.
