I can´t find an advantage doing so. And why do you think he uses shimano non rapid rise derailleurs..?? What are they gonna do when shimano M952 M750 derrailleurs run out of production? Sram maybe?

Personally I like the downtube routing. I think it shifts a bit better. Every bike I have owned with top tube routing I've had little problems with. As far as the non-rapid rise rear derailluers I read somewhere that Shimano is going to keep making non-rapid rise rear derailluers (in LX, XT and XTR flavors) because they are so popular.
