Even with the big screen and plethora of online sessions, my Nordic ifit is pretty boring.

I’d love an immersive MTB simulator. Where you could ride down virtual trails while sensors on the pedals, handlebars and seats could provide kinetic feedback to the program.

Obviously, even a great sim will not replace the joy of riding outdoors on a real bike but it would be far more engaging and fun then the typical Peloton/Nordic trainer and if done right it could even provide a way to improve overall skill level.

Such a simulator would obviously be costly but so are high end FS MTBs. Despite the high pricing demand continue to grow.

It's pretty much here but in it's early stages and kind of crude. Zwift has some mtb trails and some smart trainers pitch forward and back to match the grade. Also they have different vibrations to simulate rough terrain.

I'm guessing it will improve rapidly.

I'm not sure that feedback to replicate the chunder of a trail system would be desirable, but would be cool to have whoops and logs and such requiring maneuvering the bike and moving around/balancing on the bike. I mean, you're only working the leg muscles on a trainer, but ride a decent technical trail and you're working your core, arms, shoulders. Not to mention the short but hard efforts to get up and over rocks, thrusting over roots on a climb, etc.

It's going to happen, eventially. I'm imagining a cross between Mario Brothers and MTB. :)

Zwift has a grand total of one mountain bike specific trail, you can even steer your on screen character with your real bike's handlebars. I'ts pretty cool, but I would call it a novelty at this point. Given zwift's antiquated UI and lack of haste with improving their product, I'm not sure we'll see much more unless another company shows up with something similar.

If you mean for training You can configure Golden cheetah bike simulation to match an mtb ride. It’s free. Match with a climbing gpx and matching video and you can redo brutal climbs.

right now there’s no way to model changing crr but could be done.

The reason is simple. When you get on a trainer, its almost always for the singular purpose of training. Focus on your HR, watts, cadence, etc. There is no market for this, as Zwift has proven with the largely unused steering and MTB option.
