Why Do You have to Click into a Users profile to See Their location?

829 Views 20 Replies 15 Participants Last post by  morsetaper2
I look through oh so many posts w/ pictures, and wonder where the particular poster's locale might be. Usually I can find out by clicking into their profile. But it requires extra clicks and some scrolling to see their location... if they choose to list it - most list some reference to their location.

I'm fine if someone doesn't want to list their location. If they are that paranoid about their location I figure (to myself) they are just maybe just paranoic or have some other reason to remain locationally anonomous. But that's their right regardless to not name their locale.

But I'd like to know why locations aren't shown in the top level of a users profile? The portion of a profile that is visible in the user-info portion when a user makes a post?

While I don't really understand why people are so afraid to list their locale. I do respect their right to not choose to do so. But why not show their locale, under their useranme, if they choose to post their location in their profile?

Why are locations hidden in another layer?

I don't know the answer to your question, but there's a forum for questions like this: Site Feedback/Issues

Is that your photo? Day-amn, what happened?
I'm going to lose sleep over this one.

I think it's a great feature if one were a stalker.
I agree. all the other forums im on list location, and that helps me to relate to the posters comments. Its very helpful.

Im from Chicago. :)

i'm in san diego, ca. more specific east san diego. not east county, but east city. aka the ghetto, aka just north of southeast ****
This has been brought up in the past. The idea of showing locations did get some support, but not an overwhelming amount. No change resulted from the discussion.
this is the only forum i'm on that doesn't have the location listed under the user's avatar.
i know some people don't list it, in those cases it isn't shown, but for people that do list their location it would show up.

every vb forum i've been on has it there so i can't imagine it's hard to do.
even if only one member suggested it they should have put it up.
i like knowing where people are from so i feel like i know them better.
however most of the forums i'm on are much smaller/slower than this site so you really do get to know people well on those sites.

nothing says the holiday season like yer mom jokes
I agree, it would be REAL nice if they listed location under the username or avatar. Like others have mention, every other forum I've been on does. And if you don't want yours listed, just don't fill it out in your profile.

It comes in handy alot to just be able to glance at the poster to see were they're from. It really helps you interpret some posts.

There really is NO reason that location shouldn't be shown, like I said, if someone wants privacy, all they have to do is just not fill out there location.

Actually, come to think of it, I seem to remember them actually implementing this feature for a very short time, but then taking it away. Or maybe I'm just dreaming. I did not sleep much last night. :p
Many times I'll see pictures a user posts and think that it looks local and click the profile to see if they're from around here. Minor inconvenience but it would be nice to not have to click.

Happy Holidays :D
People get their panties all twisted up over this? It took me a whopping two extra mouse clicks (opening up the window in a new tab so as not to require having to go back to the original page...) to find out the OP is in MD.

Are people really that lazy and or worked up over something so simple?

Oh, that's right. It's winter.
A general rule of thumb I go by is that 70% of all pics posted are from Moab, 18% are from Austin, and the rest are from Detroit.
I look through oh so many posts w/ pictures, and wonder where the particular poster's passion might be. Usually I can find out by clicking into a thread in the passion forum. But it requires extra clicks and some scrolling to see passion.
