So, a couple of my ride buddies have already done it and had nothing but rave reviews about the place. Now I want to go. The problem is that they plan to do it Saturday, and Sunday is the only day I'm available.

Anyone planning to ride there Sunday morning? Like 8AM ride start?

Where do I go/park?

Safety gear? Do I need a full face?

Anyway, I'm really interested in doing this. Would be a nice trail to check off my list.

Most guys park on Higgins Rd, and then at the end of the road is the gate that allows access to the main fire road. But the road can get pretty crowded for parking pretty quickly. There's also parking at Linda Mar Beach and the shopping center nearby if Higgins fills up.

I like riding Montara for the climbs, so I park at St. Peter's Church and ride west along Rosita to Higgins to the trailhead. It allows a bit of a warmup before I hit the trail.

Thanks for the suggestions. Five of my buddies did it today and now I HAVE to see it. I'll be riding with a roadie-loving friend who's not too excited about gravity tomorrow. We start our ride at 7AM. If you see a couple of clueless Asian dudes, that would be us. =)

If you're getting lost on Montara, well then... I think you have bigger issues to be thinking about  It's a pretty simple trail system up there, and there are always people up there if you somehow get lost.

I've never ridden any of the downhill stuff over there, but I can see part of the Crack from my house; I live on the opposite side of the valley from the mountain. It looks pretty damn cool, especially if I could afford a nice downhill rig :p

It's been hella nice in the BOV (local term) this week, like in the 70s in the afternoon. Maybe it'll hit 50* by 8:00? Have a good ride dude. Pics, or don't bother reposting.

Hahah! Okay, I will post pics after this stupid card reader does it's job.

First, I don't know why NO ONE ever talks about this trail: The Crack, XXX and Boyscout are BY FAR the most intense trails I have been down on. Each one has its own special, endearing qualities. I won't say that I cleaned everything because I didn't. Crap, I even had to walk a couple of sections. I can even say that this is probably not a trail for an average biker. My roadie-buddy walked 90% of the Crack downhill and then decided he had enough and left me up there to finish XXX and Boyscout. He's off my Xmas list... hehehe. As such, I don't have "proof" that I did some of the difficult sections, but that's okay.

Shhhhhh. They're secret trails, which are guided and maintained by the locals. We don't want our mountain becoming a mini Annadel.
