I'm interested in the Alligator Starlite or the WindCutter (Sawtooth?) They are both pretty light weight. I'm leaning toward the Starlite, it's lighter and looks to have a little more meat in the braking area.

QUESTIONS:

1) What brakes/calipers are you running?
2) How long have you been using the rotors?
3) How is the stopping power and modulation?
4) What brake pads do you use or recommend?
5) Finally - which one did you like better and why?

Any other comments?

Much thanks!

Brian, I have both the Windcutter and Starlite, I prefer the windcutter, it was only 8g heavier than my starlite. The brake track on the starlite is very small compared to the Windcutter,

I am running avid BB7's with stock sintered pads. I would advise against using organics with them as they will eat through them quickly

as long as it doesn't rain I will be bringing my SS out to the rodeo cross tomorrow with the windcutters on it, I can bring my starlite of you want to look at both of them side by side

Scooter (Folsom breakouts)

I have been using the windcutters since I got my new SS and at first they worked as good as a stock avid rotor but once they bed in they work pretty damn good

That would be cool!

I'm about to buy some, what size are you running?

I bought the windcuters after a recommendation form Dez, and I bought the Starlite for my trials bike mainly on looks. after getting it in the mail I'm glad I didn't get them for my everyday bike. the Ashima rotors are also very nice

I've got 2 of each on different wheels in 160 fronts.....no difference in performance with Avid Juicey Ultimates.
I've run them with organics and sintered over the past seasons.
I do like them better than the stock Avid rotors...which I find too grabby.

My 2 cents :
Windcutter 160 - 92 and 93 g
Starlite 160 - 76 and 77 g
Weight body - 170 lbs
Bikes - Chumba HX2 and Salsa Big Mama

1) Formula R1 brakes.
2) Windcutter - 10 months. Starlite - 8 months.
3) Windcutter has got a better power and modulation.
4) Ashima semi-metallic (front) and Quad sintered (rear).
5) Starlite is good on dry conditions for XC use only. Windcutter is better on all other situations.

That's all ;)
