I don't know about you, but I always enter every free contest I can find to win any sort of biking swag. I haven't won a single inner tube, but I keep trying. What I'd like to know is, does anyone ever win? Anything good (read "usefull")?

At the race before last they let the 1,2,3rd place winners in each class pick from a table full of stuff. I got a jersey that was to small traded it for a specalized book. But the next race they are giving 3 manitou forks away for 1st place in the 3 classes.

I once won a copy of "Off-Road to Athens". That's about it, nothing to actually use while riding, unless you consider motivation.

Lots of little stuff..

1 Kenda 2.2 Karma
4 or 5 Waterbottles
3 pair Team socks
3 cheapie tire pumps
2 Multi tools
chainlube
fingerless gloves
endless Gu's and powder mixes
several t-shirts

Thats off the top of my head, all being from racing xc and endurance events. Still waiting for the big payoff..:)

A few years ago, Crank Brothers had a contest to come up with the new tagline for the Mallet pedals on the homepage of MTBR. I won! I came up with the tagline-"Easier to get out of than a John Tesh Concert." I am a CB user for life!

Not necessarily MTB-related, but I've gotten more than a few items from ride promoters. And I didn't have to win either:
Water bottles
Commemorative T-shirts
Multi-tool
Fanny pack, seat bag, and cell phone holder
Posters, coupons, and beer (?)

You get the idea, generally the larger the event (i.e. more participants and/or sponsors), the more swag you get.

I won a grill (like a weber grill) at a duathlon once, and I gave it away to the clydesdale class winner at a 12 hour race I put on 3 weeks later.;)
I used to be a cheap minipump magnet, They would have all kinds of good stuff and I would always end up with a minipump. I would find a kid a give them away.

I'm not quite sure what sort of statement that made, re-gifting for the clydes.

Damn, I wish I could have won a grill, that'd be more useful than some of the swag I've gotten (a low end bike and a tire I'd never use come to mind along with many waterbottles and other small stuff like patch kits I didn't need). There was some good stuff, tho, a couple good t-shirts, a crankset (LX) and a cool little titanium allen wrench.
