This (sorry) is my third which bike thread. I've increased my budget and have become indecisive. I'm 6'2" 200 pounds and looking for a bike , mainly for xc. I'm not sure HT or DS. Don't mind online or lbs. Have been looking at Ibex and Iron Horse(don't want to wait 3 months till stock comes in) Specialized, Kona. Open to suggestions. Please help. Thank You.

Which models?

Of the brands you've been looking at, which models have caught your attention? Maybe we can make some suggestions based on those bikes.

Very nice selections

You're making it tough...LOL.

If you go with an LBS, I say Rockhopper Pro Disc if it's hardtail, Jamis Dakar XLT if full suspension. If you go direct, I like the Trophy Pro if hardtail, Asta Comp X.7 if full suspension.

Rockhopper Pro Disc is worth the extra money over the Comp disc and is a very good spec for your weight. The Jamis Dakar is a nice frame as a baseline. Only weaknesses are the wheelset and brakes on the XLT, IMO.

As for the Ibex selections, the Trophy Pro has a great overall spec and again, a good bike for us clydes. Only downside IMO is 80mm travel. On the Asta, I don't think the spec on the Race is worth the additional money over the Comp, IMO. If it had a Reba, it would be superb. I happen to prefer SRAM (I've ridden both SRAM and Shimano drivetrains) so this pushes me over the edge.

I hope this helps.

1200 bucks...

For an FS ride, if you are ok with 06 models check out:

I don't like the Jamis XLT, if you look at their model lines both the entry level XLT and the XC are still using the old linkage system while all the other models in the two lines are using the 3rd gen. linkage.

You can also check out the GT http://www.performancebike.com/shop/profile.cfm?SKU=23228&subcategory_ID=3050
if for no other reason than the color.
For an LBS FS check out the Spec. FSR http://www.specialized.com/bc/SBCBkModel.jsp?spid=22037

For HT..

The ibex has a great component spec but the 80mm travel to me is just odd. 80mm is great for racing and does keep the weight down, but for general weekend warrior riding IMO 100mm is needed.

For HT I would go with the Hopper Pro, or if you are ok with the travel then the Ibex Trophy.
