Hi
I'm an intermediate mountain biker and enjoy enduro and XC in Wales GB.
I ride an up graded Specialized Hard Rock Pro.
I'm in a quandary and would really appreciate the collective wisdom of the MTBR forum.
I'd like to upgrade my brakes and rotors to a hydraulic setup and with so many choices new and nearly new on eBay I'm stuck.
For a budget of around £200-£250, should I go for:
1. SRAM XX
2. Shimano XTR Trail M988
3. Nearly new Hope brakes on eBay
4. Or any other suggestions you feel would be good.

thanks in advance for all your help guys, I do appreciate you taking the time to reply.
Cheers
Marc.

I tell you what, coming from a set of Juicy 7's (2008), which I liked, to a set of Shimano SLX, (I liked them as well!), to a set of Hopes, the Hope brakes make the Shimano's feel adequate, but not superb, in my opinion. My dad just put on a set of Hayes Prime Comps. They have a decent feel to them, but slightly awkward on the lever movement.

The Shimano has a very firm, solid feel, which can be nice, but a very short little lever.

The Hopes I have (E4 front, X2 rear) have the best reach adjustment, feel, and modulation of any of the four different brakes I have ever ridden on.
I do not regret spending the money on the Hope brakes for feel, modulation, power, and looks.
