I've never had a creaking problem with my 66. Maybe I just don't ride hard enough.
Maybe it's a stem tightness issue. I thought these were only for preloading the bearings. If it's creaking, then the stem is shifting...no?

So why wouldn't a properly installed star nut accomplish this? Not that there's anything wrong with 'better' technology.:thumbsup:

I run Hopeys so I can't put starnuts in. I agree that the headlocks can do a better job keeping stems from slipping-

Let's say you adjusted your stem and headset preload correctly, then tightened the pinch bolts on the stem against the steerer. Now now you can make the headlock tighter than you did to adjust the headset preload. Subsequently if you do a drop and the force tries to shove the stem up the steerer, there is "extra" force holding it down and in place.
