I've been using the "661 Evo with Chamois" lately, and I like them. The hip pad is much smaller than the hip pad on the POC VPD 2.0 shorts, but I've crash tested the 661 shorts a couple of times on jumbled slickrock(Amasa back/Moab), and the area between my waist and knees suffered no pain or ill effects(my achilles tendon on one side did not fair as well). The chamois is very good but poorly marketed as "gel". Anyone who has ever suffered the numbing effect of a gel saddle will be hesitant to buy these.
The downsides are: 1) price, but if you can get a "20% off one full priced item" deal plus cash back from active junky, they are more reasonable; 2) the rear waist of the shorts should be cut 1-2" higher, so that you don't feel like your backside is exposed.
