I don't think you can go wrong with either. I would choose based on one of the following:

Which one has better dealer support in your area?
OR
Which one do you hope we will tell you is the better option?

If its a wash I'd personally pick the Troy...

I really can't pick between the two and they both would have great support

The X 3 has a RS 35 fork. Which is junk because of the Motion Control 15+ year old plastic 'damper'.
Which has no small bumper high speed compression damping. And no adjustment for high speed damping. You'll bounce with every small rock/root impact. "High speed" refers to the impact speed response not the bike speed.
More- the 'damper' gets quickly overpowered with bike speed. Then you have no damping at all and bounce around when you're going fast and hitting bumps. Loss of control and heavy braking or crash are the options. You do get an adrenaline rush from the danger.
Plus RockShox made the 35mm stanchion interior dimension different than their better forks. You can't buy a better Charger damper to upgrade it.
So it's a dead end total replacement choice.
The X 2 is $3500/4300CA. You get a decent fork. Fox 36 with a Grip damper. I'd take an Occam H30 for the same money.

The Troy has a 35mm stanchion RS Revelation fork. It comes with the Motion Control damper as above. But the stanchion interior dimension is the same as a Pike. So you can upgrade the crap damper to a Charger level. And that is an immediate change before you even ride it. I'd buy the damper before taking delivery. Or look for a used fork and sell yours as a new takeoff. My fork choice would be a Manitou Mezzer.

Wouldn't the steep head angle and long reach be better for BC on the Giant, I don't know a crazy amount about geometry but that's what I thought. would the smaller stack height be the bad thing for BC
You don't want a steep head tube angle for BC. Look up the recent Pinkbike review of the Giant. The split pivot suspension on the Troy is pretty sweet too.

A steep head tube angle leads to more chances of going over the bars when you go down a steeper segment of trail or drop off a big rock. Your front wheel gets under you more easily. The head tube angle gets steeper and you have to get back over the rear wheel more to keep yourself somewhat level. It can be done. But slacker is less of a problem in that type of terrain. That's why the guy in my previous video, who rides the North Shore, has a Sight. He previously had a 65* head tube angle Norco.

The X 3 has a Rockshox Yari RC fork which is upgradeable to the charger damper

I meant slack, the lower the degree that slacker is right. So wouldn't that mean it is better, I have always heard that the slacker it is the better it is for steep terrain?
