I'm in the market for a new ride and I thought I would solicit some opinions? I'm looking to spend about 700 dollars and I have it narrowed down to 2 choices:

1. GT Avalanche 1.0
2. Fuji Tahoe Comp 29er

The GT has good components for the price range but I find myself really enjoying the feel of the 29er ride, thoughts, opinions, suggestions?

Also, Truvativ 5D 3.0 vs. Shimano Deore Octalink?

I'm not an expert or anything but I would probably prefer the Fuji based on components...mainly the fork. Are there any other brands you are looking at? I have the octalink set up with deore components on my 08 gary fisher tassajara and everything works well. I think my setup, as far as the drivetrain goes, is exactly the same as what comes on the GT but that suntour shock is probably not something I would want to go with. As far as the SRAM x-5 VS. Shimano Deore they are both in about the same category and both will perform well. Also the msrp on the fuji 29'r is 950 so you might be looking to spend a little more on that one. I would definately do some more looking around...i would also highly recommend the Fishers if the genesis geometry fits you well. good luck in finding a new ride.

I appreciate the response ncfisherman, Fishers are fantastic bikes, although the fuji has a higher msrp both bikes at my local shop are 699.99 so it was a toss up for me, again thanks for the input.
