Forbidden Druid? Ibis Ripmo v2?
Is there much evidence of yokes breaking coil shocks? I really only recall the Levo munching them. But then the Kenevo comes with coil. The Stumpy Evo and previous gen Enduros often had coil option.Frames without a yoke, or at least, not having a long one, and ideally a linear-progressive leverage rate curve that is in the realm of ~30%. I have some opinions of particular antisquat values that I like paired with coils, but overall, the general gist is a 30% progressivity to the suspension and minimal side loading of the shock.
Just google that mate. Each of those bikes you mention have many cases of snapped shafts on coil shocks. Is there much evidence of yokes breaking coil shocks? Google is awkward like that. I keep an eye on the enduro and stumpy thread on here and it's not exactly littered with broken shocks. I suspect it's as much do with how many are sold as well.Just google that mate. Each of those bikes you mention have many cases of snapped shafts on coil shocks.
SC releases on 3 year cycles. There will almost certainly be an update this year. Not saying you should wait but it wasn't expected to be released before this year.Which 29er frames have a progressive rear leverage curve, suitable for a coil shock, and approx. 140 mm travel?
I have been waiting and waiting for the SC Hightower V3 to be released and hopefully fixing the V2's inability to mount a rear coil: It has too little space in the shock tunnel.
Who gets my money? :-D
Fox does not recommend coil on specializeds with yokes. RS calls it okay and they have wider diameter shafts. Thats what the JRA people say anyway. Is there much evidence of yokes breaking coil shocks? I really only recall the Levo munching them. But then the Kenevo comes with coil. There was a thread on here with a broken one. But I've never looked up to see if it's specifically written anywhere. As far as I can recall the shock manufacturers say to check with the frame manufacturers. I'd have to look up a stumpy to see if Specialized state not to use coils.Fox does not recommend coil on specializeds with yokes. RS calls it okay and they have wider diameter shafts. Do they make 45mm stroke coils? I can't think of any offhand, but I admit to not really shopping coils yet.Thank you for all the great tips.
I also spotted the Transition Spur. With its ~40% progression it should work well with a coil.
And threaded BB is also a plus for me.
But only 120 mm travel (I come from 130 on a 27.5). This hits directly into another question for which I cannot decide: 120 or 140mm travel. I mostly ride trails on which 120 mm is a great match, but I have most fun on the 20% time when I ride rougher trails where 120mm feels too little.
Exactly this.Banshee Prime v3.
I have a Tallboy 4 and bought a Cascade link for it, and they had this to say about running a coil on it. I have no idea, but I suspect it runs true for many of the bikes you're looking at:Thank you for all the great tips.
