Who even markets them anymore? All I see as OEM spec is MuleFuts, at all spec levels. Even on brands that used to have their own house brands (Trek, Salsa, Surly).

HED looks like they're still in the game, but I don't see any available. And well, they might not last long.

I have a set of NOS 27.5 Jackalope wheelset sitting in the garage that seem like they get closer to unicorn status with every day that passes.

DT Swiss, arguably the biggest rim mfr, is still showing their fat-rims. Did they stop production?

I've been looking almost every day for a spare set of decent rims, I can't find anything except the HED carbon which is too much rim for what I need. I think cheap Ican's are available, but not with a Sram driver and those hubs are dodgy from what I have read.

I better lock up my spare 27.5 x 80mm v1 mulefut...

Light Bicycle has 27.5 I70 carbons for a reasonable price in their US stock.

Looks like universal has 2x Heds in 27.5 aluminum...

Plenty of people do it with the 3.8s and 4.0s. I believe pretty much all the 65mm rims are discontinued and so people started using the 50mm ID rims instead of the 80mm.

There were a few threads here in the past discussing it. I’d have to dig for them though.
You are giving up a lot of sidewall support, this affects handling significantly.

I agree. Wasn’t saying it’s optimal, was just throwing out that it’s an option people are using. The only options now that I know of are 50mm and 80mm. Guys that run 3.8s or smaller 4.0s usually opt for the 50s if they ride mostly trail.

Maybe I missed something but I’m 99% sure that all of the 65mm rims that were available when 27.5 fat first came out are now discontinued.

Based on my experience with the HED BAD 26" rims, I would avoid the 27.5" if at all possible. Fussy to set up, leaky, miserable to break the beads, soft material and a narrow inflation range.
I still have a set of MuleFut 50's that I run 3.8's on and they are an excellent combination for firm conditions.
