Where to stay in Whistler?

cascade lodge is clean and close (I'm staying there now)

holiday inn sunspree is 129 per night. and its right above starbucks for your morning pick me up

pretty sure you could find a deal at the Fairmont for under 200, although it won't be 2 bedroom, just 2 beds, close to park but away from village so a little quieter....and bike valet is good too....

Well, we were supposed to be leaving for Whistler in a couple days but just heard they evacuated the mountain because of a forest fire that started from a lightning strike. Any one with some local info on what's happening there? We were going to be driving from Alberta arriving Sunday night.

You'd likely need to phone or email the Bike Park to get more info on how it's impacting them..

The fire is on Crystal Ridge, on Blackcomb. That's quite a ways from the bike park, so other than some smoke, should be fine. If it's smoky, ride Squamish instead!

How about tent camping sites?

I'll be rolling through the Whistler area the weekend after Crankworx and I'm wondering if tent camping will be possible in the village area.
I'd rather no party scene, as I'd like to ride, sleep, ride.
If at all possible a tent camping spot within riding distance of the Comfortably Numb trailhead would be the best. (I don't know if we'll even bother with riding the resort.)
All help is appreciated.

Tent camping has been brought back at riverside campground. It is roughly a 10k flat spin on the highway out to the CN trailhead but the trail ends right in your backyard. Of course, you could always ride it backwards and then you would be very near the trailhead!

They evacuated both mountains on thursday while they contained the fire. Whistler re-opened the very next morning, no bike park closures. No evac alerts were issued even for homes on Blackcomb (I live on the side of the Comb, about 2k from the fire on crystal ridge) and I hear the fire is almost completely out now, smoke had cleared by friday pm.

Thanks. Good to know about the trailheads. I'm with you, I'd rather ride road (suffer) first and play later.
I saw riverside on the internet and am tempted to make reservations. $35/night isn't too bad.
I was also wondering if there are any Forest Service or public land camp areas for car camping in the area.

Cal-Cheak is <10 km south of Whistler.

I've never been to, but the website says it's got tent camping.
Green River Provincial Park campground is a couple km. south of Pemberton, so approx 20 min driving time north of Whistler and C.N. start. You could ride some Pemberton trails from there too.
