Somebody makes a flat plastic platform that you mount cleats to, then snap it onto a clipless pedal. I've seen them flat and toe clip style.

I'm thinking these may be a decent idea for casul trips to the store or evening road rides after dinner etc.

(I know they are not a great idea, but I don't want to get big downhill platforms/clips or ride normal clipless pedals in street shoes etc, I've read all the reviews on them and don't want to compromise.) Thanks

you'll need to buy cleats for them but that should be what you are looking for.

Sometimes they have them on ebay too.

My LBS gave me a pair ...

they use them for people to demo bikes that have clipless but didn't bring shoes. I used to use them for the same things you're talking about - playing around with the kids, store, etc. I've gone to Crank Bros. Candy's so I can piddle around in street shoes. The demo decks can be a real mother to get out of the pedals sometimes.

but like I said, hard to get out of my Shimanos. It's difficult to get enough leverage to disengage. The others, with real cleats, might go in and out more easily.
