hey all!

i am looking into move to hawaii for a couple of months. i am trying to decide what island to go to. either oahu, maui or kauai. do you all have any suggestions?? there seems to be a lot of riding on oahu....what about maui and hawaii? what part of oahu has the most riding?

i have more questions but i need to narrow down what island to go to first.

thanks!!!

hey, did Lee/Sharon give you my email? They were saying someone was headed this way.

Tough decision and I'm not qualified to make comparisons but more people = more riding and Oahu has lots more people than the other islands. Winter weather reduces the options also. Things are slowly improving here on Maui but we are getting pinched in a few spots.

Oahu has a growing DH/Freeride scene with numerous riding/shuttling options and cool people to ride with. There are more jobs on Oahu too. Check out http://dhhawaii.com/ for a slice of the "scene" down here. Of course, be prepared for the high cost of living here..........

Oahu or Maui, not Kauai...

Kauai has some good trails, but it's not very bike-friendly if that's gonna be your transportation. You really need a car on Kauai. Lots of rain days, and no bike lanes or shoulders to speak of. Also, locals don't give bikes the right-of-way (as a rule)...

Check the DHHawaii link above. I've ridden with those guys a couple times and they've got some good stuff on Oahu. Never ridden on Maui, but I've been there a bunch and it seem more bike-accessible than Kauai.

Lastly, bring a very good bike lock if you're bringing a very good bike.

You need to come to Maui and bring our mutual friend Eric (and Lois) for a weekend. We'll show you around.

I get to Oahu much more often because we've got some clients there. I've never brought a bike to Maui, 'cause I didn't know what was going on over there or where to ride. Since you've extended the invite, I'll keep it in mind next time we're over there.

If I was planning to come over with a bike, would I bring a VP-Free or a Heckler?

Check your PMs. There's a little Christmas cheer waiting for you there...
