You mean in the snow??? Unless it's cold enough for the ground to be frozen solid, you will end up trashing the trails. I have not put in my fair share of trail maintenance, and I am guilty of the occasional muddy ride, but it's definatly frowned upon to go thrash the trails in muddy conditions. Sorry man, wish I had better advice for places to ride, maybe take up cross country skiing!? Hahaha.
If you are just asking where to go in general, check out MORE's website www.more-mtb.org in the forum they have a "places to ride" link it will give you a great start for places to ride around the area.
Close to Alexandria you have Laurel Hill and my Favorite - Fountain Head, both are down by Lorton.
