Hey gals - It's almost summer! Where are you planning a trip for vacation? Can be bike related or not...

I don't have any big trips this year, although I am headed up to Boggs in Northern California for a race next week - its got some great trails and should be fun. Thinking also maybe Brianhead, UT next month....

Dunno that it counts as 'vacation' to most, but we're pretty stoked... husband and I are sketched in to join up w/ some others doing Esmerelda on July 11th for our 15th anniversary.

Family reunion in late July- grandma had 10 kids, so it's BIG and it's a blast. Reminds me, I need to ask the Oregon forum about the riding down there...

Depending on how my fitness evolves this summer, Icicle Ridge out of Leavenworth (Wa) might actually be attainable by September. If it somehow all magically comes together, I'd like to make an 'event' out of it by renting a cabin over there w/ friends for a long weekend.

And this coming winter, husband promises to make good on last winter's canceled XC ski vacate to Winthrop.

Heh, used up my vacation time already on a week in Mexico in April (snorkled so much I think I was about to grow gills), and a week off when my mom and dad were visiting from Connecticut. I took the parents to Moab for a few days, rented a little house there, and got up at the crack of dawn to ride my bike. Then we spent the mornings and evenings touring the national parks :) So I got my bike vacation and quality time with the folks, too.

This summer all I get is a couple four-day weekends, one in Crested Butte biking and one somewhere south and west of Crested Butte for a backpacking trip.

CO Road Trip

My BF and I are loading up our SS bikes and a geared FS bike each and heading from Boulder to Crested Butte and then Durango for a week of riding, riding, riding! We did this last year (different locales) and had so much fun!

Wake up, have breakfast/coffee, ride all day (pack a lunch), clean up, have a romantic dinner, sleep. Repeat for 6 days!

My husband and I are planning on re-creating our mountain bike honeymoon plans which were dashed last year when he tore his ACL skiing.
In late August/early September we are driving from CO to spend 2 weeks in Whistler and Vancouver/Vancouver Island area riding. Both taking DH bikes and longer travel AM type bikes. I can't wait!!!!!

Two weeks of vacation per year is just such a sad state of affairs! Can't wait to sell the house and ditch the regular job!

Close to home, but still fun!

I am going for a long weekend to Ellijay, GA to ride at Bull Mountain and I have to go to a wedding in July in Chatanooga and I plan on sneaking off to ride at Raccoon Mountain. My bestest friend in the whole world is coming from Flagstaff to visit the south for the wedding so I am having a stay of home vacation with her when we get back from the wedding. (Unfortunately, she's not a moutain biker so I'll be trading tires for hiking boots and hooves.)

I just got back from a weekend in Revelstoke...so much fun! The bike parks are opening up soon, so I've got many weekend trips to Sun Peaks, Silverstar, Fernie and Panorama coming up!

I'd like to get to Rossland for some 7 Summits and back to Revelstoke for Sale Mountain and Keystone Basin...but there are only so many weekends. Argh!

The two actual "get on a plane" trips are nbr: Craftsbury, VT for our annual week of sculling next week and then San Juan Islands sea kayaking in August. I do like getting my water fix. I'm sure there will be plenty of short trips through the summer to places like Winter Park, Buffalo Creek, and the like. So many choices....:D

We are debating whether to attempt 7 Summits. It's really cool and all that, but the reality of a 20 mile (30.5 KM) long high elevation trail, around 6000 ft, with 3400 feet of climbing..... that is a real commitment. I'm in decent shape, and I've heard everything from "brutal and relentless" to "awesome". I take all of this with a grain of salt of course. And, some of the folks I know go up there expecting a nice little IMBA epic like Loon Lake. My real sense is that what the BC riders take for granted as a technical trail blows the mind of most out of town visitors. My local connection tells me if one can do Oasis without a shuttle then you'll be good to go fitness-wise.

here's Lee Lau's trip report,

I was going to Downieville for a 4 to 5 day trip over the 4th of July but my friend had to bail!
Anyone want to join me?
I am going to Breckenridge in August for a week for a nice mountain bike trip
and then the next week after I was going to travel and do Monarch Crest, CB and whatever else I could find in a week but my second week buddy had to cancel!:skep:
Anyone want to join me!?
Hmm! I'm getting depressed as I write this!
Now I've got like 4 weeks to kill and nobody to go with! :madman:

It's true, I always forget when I'm travelling that my version of "downhill" or "technical" is way different than someone who doesn't live in BC.

I think 7 Summits might be worth it, but I've heard Keystone Basin is better...plus you get all the elevation gain by driving to the trailhead instead of the 10km slog up the mountain. I've also been saying I'm going to do it for 3 years, but once the time of the year rolls around, I've got downhillitis and can't stop riding the chairlift up...or shuttling.

yep thats my kind of ride,:p

Revelstoke isn't a day trip for us, poopies. Another option is Kettle Crest, just south of Rossland. Just like 7-S but easier.

I highly recommend making the long weekend trek or including Revelstoke into biking in the future. Keystone is awesome and Mt McPherson is a phenomenal trail system! It's rooty, twisty, rocky, up-down awesomeness rolled into a trail system!

We are doing the Moab thing for 2 weeks, then maybe hitting up some rapids around boulder, hopefully getting some rock climbing in while we are out there.
