I have Hayes MX-2 Mechanicals on my bike and I love them...well kind of. When I lock up my rear brake and try to skid on my pine straw driveway, the whole bike vibrates. I think the problem is about my weight...or lack there of. Do I need a tire with softer tread? I don't skid much, but when I do, its only in the woods by my house or in my driveway. Is this normal for disc brakes? On my old bike which had Vs, it didn't do this.

I know my explanation sucked, so please ask questions if you need to.

Could be the tire's knobs skipping across the ground. Could be loose bearings in the hub.

I thinks its the knobs. The bearings are fine. I'm planning on getting new tires anyway, because mine are getting pretty worn down.

every mountainbike with disc brakes that i've seen/ridden has done this.

Then ride my bike with slicks or semi-slicks... Or even XC tires with a closely spaced aggressive tread... Does not do this.

And how exactly did you check the bearings?

Wait....if the wheel will wobble side to side, the bearings cause that, right? Thats what I assumed. And the hubs are pretty bad. They dont even have a brand on them! There are no markings on them that can be associated with any hubs on the internet. How do you spell generic? Ha, ha.

If the rim wobbles side to side when you spin it, it's out of true.

If you grab part of the wheel and it feels loose when you shake it side to side, it is the bearings.
