I have a 2007 chameleon with a 140mm revelation fork. I like to ride mostly xc/am. I currently have mavic 717 with lx hub wheelset on the bike. I am looking for upgrade, I want to spend around 400 dollars and would love to get around 1800gram mark. Any suggestions? I dont run any tire bigger then a 2.35.

These are more than 400, but light and really durable (Shimano XT 775 or 778). What I look at most with rims is the degree of engagement on the hub and the weight. These things I believe are 7 degrees which is great. They are tubeless as well and really light. You can pick em up for around 575-700 or so online. I think they are easily less than 1800g, and tubeless means even lighter and way better performance than running tubes.

Bicycle Wheel Warehouse

Bicycle Wheel Warehouse has some of the best prices. I ordered some Mavic XM819's laced to BWW's house brand Pure XCR hubs. The set came in under $400 delivered. These are not the the most high end wheels, but from my perspective the hubs are a step up from Shimano XT.

Check it out, it's worth a look.

These wheels went on my Chameleon re-build and are very nicely put together. The hub was the only unknown; however, I have read quite a few good reviews and have not found any negative feedback. So far the hubs and build are holding up well for me. BWW also has spare parts available for the hub if necessary.

Check out this review of the hubs.
