Wheels and cassette selection for new or existing build

Does anyone know where i should get the wheels? Used or new high end (cf) 29er (rim brake?) wheels for old school qr 135mm (rear) frame with room for 2.2 front and 2.1 rear? Should I get thruaxle and convert it to qr with adapters if possible? I'm thinking to stay with rim brakes.. fork and frame are rim brake setup. Please send me a link? I jusy want good wheels for my old bike or old bike buildup.

10 11 or 12 sp..cassette? Thinking 11sp 11x42? Have friction shifting. 1x. What is the lightest durable cassette? (I've been using sram 1099 11x36 10sp) but its junk...skipping on 36tooh ring...(which is aluminum). Probably need to stay with 10 or 11 sp for no more range left for friction shifter.

???

This post seems to be all over the place. 29" wheel mountain bikes were (almost) all disc brake bikes? Carbon fiber rim brake wheels? On a mountain bike? That would be lunacy--the brake track would be destroyed in short order...

Is this for a 'monstercross' bike? What frame are you trying to fit wheels to?
Maybe I should just get alloy wheels...? i think they need to be 30mm inner diameter?

i only have 2 frames... ...yes it is monstercross...the bike name is Frankenbike Ultima. It has Zipp 404 aluminum cf hoop front and cf rear. Itis all over the olace because the standards and technology has gone all over...changed.
Subscribed. Need to see where this goes.

Been living under a rock.never heard of monstercross before - wider tire gravel bikes alternate name. Check.

Also curious about this zip aluminum carbon fiber front hoop. Sounds exotic.

It is just a roadie wheel. The older Zipps were al hoop with cf deep (60mm for 404) v profile. The bike was built to serve as a gravel bike and has worked reasonably for such as well as bilepacking...swapping wheels for diff desired performance (32mm front 35mmrear; 42mm front 40mm rear) as per conditions regulate. I'm seting up to do the Huracan 360 again. And be a little easier off road, on single track?...with the 2.1 rear and 2.2 front

They quit making those wheels a few years back

Light Bicycle can make a rim brake version of many of their rims if you ask them to specifically. I think they use a graphene brake track with a grooved surface. It doesn't come that way by default. This one might work:

RM29C06 Carbon MTB Rim - Light Bicycle

I might do it in the future on this 26" rim when my current rim brake track wears through because I can't find any aluminum rims that I like in 26".

Hello, Do you think there is enough interest in making a rim brake version? I would really like some carbon rims for my vintage bike. Thank you

Hi Brent, It is okay to manufacture this 26er bike rim with rim brake version. We just sent you quotation through email. Please check. Thanks, Lightbicycle

Here's a road wheel that has the rim brake grooves they use. It's wide enough for you, but heavy and you probably don't need the aero shape:
AR56 Carbon Road/CX Rim - Light Bicycle

Carbon wheel and rim brakes have been use for years for muddy cyclocross. I don't think it's a problem. In my case, I stay out of the mud anyway.

Lots of QR hubs are still available, and also lots of choices for hubs that can convert between QR and thru-axle. Here's a budget hubset with DT star ratchet (non-EXP) compatible parts (54T might not be reliable according to this thread DT Chinese 240s (ZTTO M1 Boost hubs) | Page 3 | Mountain Bike Reviews Forum (mtbr.com) , but can swap it out for 36T DT units):

I try to stay out of the mud also...but inevitably ended up going through it in order appease my friend once, and also to get away from the gators/snake/mosquitos and wild boars, in the swamp, escaping the darkness, while striving for a safe place to set camp and sleep.

There is a lot of info/options here...so ty for the link...I'm trying to process what im learning/reading/seeing.

Would it be beneficial to use a centerlock hub on order to aid disc alignment? Or would that force a shimano hub purchase which would be too much heavier compared to the Zitto...and what about these industry9 hubs...i just dont get why they are so sought after? I dont know much about hubs either...but universal/versatile fitment is up my ally for the wheelset. 24T might even be ok, but 36T sounds better

I checked out the ar56 30mm and rm 29c06. But will have to call for correct feature/ characteristics choice(s) thanks again xcandrew
