I just finished cleaning up an old Bianchi Advantage for a cousin and discovered the freewheel assembly is loose and needs to be replaced. I want to go ahead and update from his 7sp to 8 or 9. I know 9 is the standard but this is just a bike to use around the neighborhood and I'm thinking 8sp would be cheaper to do.

Do I need to be looking for a certain size hub to build the wheel? This is by no means a trail bike and seems like it is an older road frame. I tried putting an 8 spd cassete on his hub originally but didn.t fit of course but I am more worried about the width of the hub being able to fit the stays.
