Ive seen maybe 4 different techniques on youtube but the only one ive seen twice is "biggest ring in the front, biggest in the back, bypass the RD, then add two links. Is this a good technique to use on a 1x10 drivetrain or does anyone have a better way?

Yup, that's the correct way. Doesn't matter how many chainrings or cogs you have, or what length the RD cage is. Big + big + 2 links.

For a suspension frame you just need to compress it to size the chain at maximum chain growth.
