Is
this the king of tri-clone mountain right now? The
Solarstorm XT30/40 didn't fare too well in this review. Anything new and exciting in this space?
I wouldn't go as far to say that the one I reviewed is "King of the hill" but it is the best I've personally had an opportunity to play around with.
The Atolite X8 looks interesting but it is not a clone lamp per say nor is it in the "clone" price range. That said it is using a better battery so depending on the beam pattern and how good it works it could be worth the extra money. It also looks to offer a "stepless" program mode which is nice to see. Coupled with XM-L2 emitters and you could have a very nice set-up. I also like the design of the bar mount which looks like it will be very stable.
The only thing I might question is the lamp design; While it looks nice I'm wondering if it is using a plastic outer shell (?). I see what looks like vent ports so correct me if I'm wrong.
