First off, sorry about the double post...must have clicked twice on the submit button when posting. Anyways, the standard XT lockring is steel? Do the weights scale appropriately for the 11-34 version? By that I mean is the XT still lighter by about 10g at the different gearing? I've been thinking about going 11-32 anyways...maybe I might as well. Just put an order in for the KMC X9SL chain...should drop about 30-50 grams. Anymore input on weights?

the 990 comes with an al lockring - the xt doesn't. an al lockring saves 9 grams.

the 11-34 xt weighs 293 (284 with al lockring)
the 11-32 xt weighs 264 (255 with al lockring)

those are the weights i've had.

weights i've seen on the 990 for either configuration have ranged from 290 to 310. so the xt 11-34 is in the vicinity of 10 grams lighter, the 11-32 is a fair bit more.
