when it's colder than a ditch diggers back side and the trails are packed with fresh snow??

Well I haven't quite figured that one out yet, but I did amuse myself today by putting all my gear on and making silly faces at the camera. Then I set up my new rear shock and spent a half hour or so staring at it wishing I could go try it out.

All told the damage was about $50.00 (dirt freaking cheap for a brand new shock) and almost exactly a pound of lost weight over the Vanilla RC that replaced the p.o.s Swinger that came on the frame. Hmm, I'm thinkin it could be time to invest in some cold wheather gear, and go suck some nice fresh winter air, cough cough.

Great idea, cept I don't have a basement living in the top floor of an apartment house. I guess I could do the steps right out the front door, but that might wake up the neighbors. Aw screw it.

Cactus, I'm gonna need a camera man!!!! :D

Man, I feel your pain, I do. I am a former Iowan (well, still an Iowan at heart, anyway), and I remember riding in little circles in the garage. Or, taking a frigid snow ride bundled up like that kid from "A Chirstmas Story". You'd be warm, except for your throat which would sting from repeated inhalation of bitter air.

Not only would I wear my bike stuff in Decemeber around the house, I'd wear my ski gear in the livingroom in early October in front of the latest ski video. Geek, I know. Then I moved to Colorado, and I don't do either anymore. Sure, I get more of what I want when I want it now (you can still ride here in February, and I don't even need to go into the skiing here) - but I miss that anticipation and intense yearning to be doing something that I love so much when there's a serious barrier in the way. The waiting made it sweeter - now I think I take it all for granted.

Maybe I'll make a couple of laps in the garage today, just for old times sake, and since the weather today reminds me very much of the Tundra of the upper mid-west.

last i saw it was -12 with the wind chill. not much fun and trust me, i know how to layer and ive got gaerne boots. this is supposed to be fun, not a test of manhod. ill ride at zero but the wind pretty much cooks it for me anyway. plus 2' of powder kills unless theres a pugs i can borrow for a few months. think ill just sit here awhile and make a ass of myself if thats cool with everyone. maybe ill go shovel the driveway and sidewalk in a few.

I think you would be much better off saving your energy for an actual ride than riding in circles in your garage. By God if I could get out and ride now, I'd do it. But for now I'll reserve myself to practicing track stands in my living room. While thinking warm happy thoughts.

You are more than welcome to make an ass of yourself if you like, we'll just look the other way :D.

So my only concern about doing the shock shoot out down the main stairs is the low spot in the ceiling. I have to duck under it just walking down em, now add another 12" or so to that, ouch!!!

Squish, where you finding shocks like that for 50$

You and Cactus got a secret stash somewhere or what? I would love to have and RP3 but that is not in hte cards but I would love to have a back up shock to the dreaded Swinger. Granted I have not even rode it yet but after listening to all the horror stories of the past year I want a spare before I fly back over the pond.

Any good deals you know of some where? ;)

Lets just say bein a shop guy has it's perks. And who told you about my stash!!! :D

Any way. I would check ebay for shocks, a lot of times they go cheap. But finding a shock like my Vanilla there with a 6.5" itoi and 1.75" stroke then they tend to go a little high, because they are kind of a rare size. But I've seen floats go for as low as $50.00 some times. They might need a seal kit or a tear down but it's still cheaper than paying full bang for a new shock.
